St. Patrick’s N.S. held its 1916 commemoration event at the front of the school on Tuesday the 15th of March as part of the national event recognising the day.
Mr. O’Donnell began the event by thanking to all families and locals who were in attendance, including retired active servicemen Paddy Fagan and Eamonn Harding. He then read out the 1916 proclamation and was followed by CM and SK who read the 2016 version, created by 6th class pupils.
EG then read the background to Francis Ledwidge’s poem “Thomas Mc Donagh” before ML read the poem itself. The flag was then raised by the retired servicemen Eamonn and Paddy after they marched to the flagpole.
The ceremony concluded with a rendition of Ámhrán na bhFiann.
