The hens are doing great and luckily there have been no attempted egg-scapes, not like last week when Minnie tried to hop the gate but couldn’t find the eggsit.
On Friday, after the balloon release, parents and grandparents came to the garden and six fifth class pupils gave them a tour of the hens area, spoke to them about the greenhouse, the schedule and gave the adults an opportunity to ask any questions about the hens. The six pupils also handed out twenty egg cartons with a single egg in it to the Parents Association and other people who help our school every day as a small thank you for all their hard work.
We got new tags for the hens because the old ones were digging into the hens ankles and tearing the skin. The new ones are round and don’t dig into the hens ankles. They each clearly have their own colours, because with the old tags some of them had the same colours so we had to colour them in with marker but when it rained it washed off the marker and it was very difficult to identify each hen. The new tags are Minnie ~ Pink, Henrietta ~ Red, Clucky ~ Green, Rainbow ~ Orange and Bom Bom ~ Blue.
Just as a reminder it costs two euro for half a dozen eggs and we will shortly be moving on to fourth class.
