Pupils in Fourth Class took part in a poetry competition for Northumbria University’s Ledwidge Centenary Event. The event is due to take place at the “Literary and Philosophical Society” in Newcastle. Pupils were asked to write a poem inspired by the life and poetry of Francis Ledwidge. Judges were extremely impressed by the entries received from Darcey Devlin, Cormac Redhouse, Senan Duffy and Michael Loughran. The overall winner was Ethan Harding whose tribute poem, as the judges commented, “recalls a young man who enjoyed the countryside of County Meath a hundred years ago and connects it with a personal love of home and family.” Well done to Ms. O’Brien for co-ordinating the project, to all the entrants and to the staff in Northumberland University for taking the time to contact us.
