Cycle training is back this year for fifth class. It usually takes place for pupils in fourth class but the scheme did not operate last year because it was upgraded. In the new format, the pupils learn how to handle a bicycle on the school yard but also receive on road training. The number of instructors has also gone up from one to two.
Many thanks to Cycling Ireland, The Department of Sport, Eurolink and Meath Local Sports Partnership for their sponsorship of the scheme, meaning that it costs only €13 for the programme. It ensures that pupils get proper bicycle training, giving them the confidence to cycle, which is a fantastic mode of transport and source of exercise.
