This week the hens were fairly good. Monday went well, no broken eggs, no broody hens. Tuesday was good too. No broken eggs, no broody hens. Wednesday went without any issues.7 eggs, no broken eggs, no broody hens. On Thursday we thought a hen was broody but it turns out she wasn’t. No broken eggs, 5 eggs, 4 of which we took from the hen that was broody later in the day when she finally got off.
On Friday we went into the pen to find that a hen (who was apparently called Rainbow) had knocked an egg off the perch. The egg had cracked. We got a plastic bag from Sharon in which we picked up the broken egg. When we did, Rainbow got aggressive and ran after us trying to peck us. We got out unharmed. Later that day at 2:45pm we went out to put the hens in their pen when we heard one of the hens squealing.
We also saw that the grey and white hens combs were down so we told Davy and he did something about it (he told us to go back into class and he walked into the pen). Doing hens was very fun I enjoyed it.
