Slane and Skryne National Schools played out a very competitive game in Slane National School this week in round two of the Cumann na mBunscol Division 2 competition. Slane NS wore red bibs to avoid a clash of colours. There was very little to separate the teams in the first half with excellent defending on both sides and the advantage of Stephen Woulfe’s long kick outs was a big help to Slane against the breeze. Slane led at the half time break by 1-05 to 1-03.
The advantage of the breeze in the second half saw Slane stretch their lead with early scores from Hugh O’Donnell, Ethan Harding and Altay Guneyer. Conor O’Gorman also got his first point of the competition in the second half to reward him for all his work around the pitch. Skryne defended resiliently and the contest was still in doubt until the final minutes. Slane now have remaining games against Lismullen NS and Kilbride NS in the league section.
