10th August 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As families are preparing for the return to school in September, below are some things that we ask you to prepare in advance of the children returning to school.
Hand and Respiratory Hygiene
Pupils will have access to warm water and soap in all taps in the school. There are hand sanitising dispensers in all classrooms and corridors throughout the school.
In addition to this, we ask that each child has a zip lock bag with their name clearly labelled on it with a:
- Small bottle of hand sanitiser
- Small pack of tissues
Pupils will use the hand sanitiser under the direction of the teacher.
We ask that you:
Practise the correct hand washing and hand sanitising technique with your child(ren) and continue to practise good respiratory hygiene:
- Cough/sneeze into a tissue, put tissue in the bin and thoroughly wash hands immediately after
- Cough/sneeze into elbow and wash hands after
Please click the following link for video to show the correct hand washing technique https://www2.hse.ie/wellbeing/how-to-wash-your-hands.html
Outdoor Wet Gear
Pupils will be outside as much as possible.
We ask that each child has a:
- Drawstring bag – these are reasonably priced online and in many stores
- Rain jacket
- Change of footwear (wellies or old runners)
- Change of socks
School Uniform
The school uniform policy remains the same:
Uniform – navy jumper/cardigan, blue shirt, school tie and navy trousers/pinafore or skirt.
School tracksuit – navy jumper/cardigan, blue t-shirt and navy tracksuit bottoms/plain navy shorts.
There will of course be flexibility, for example if a uniform or tracksuit needs to be washed and is not dry, the alternative of whichever is ready can be worn.
Dunnes Stores and Marks and Spencers are currently selling school uniforms.
Ties and crests can be purchased from the school. If you wish to order a tie (€3.50) or a crest (€3.00) please email the school at office@slanens.ie and we will order them and have them ready for the pupils in September. We will organise the payment for these items in September.
We will be in touch with more information regarding the reopening of school in due course.
Le meas,
Lorna Gerrard
Acting Principal
