Green Day 2009

On Wednesday 6th April, we held our Green Day. All classes engaged in classes, lessons and activities relating to being green and road safety!

While it had been a damp start, today was also a BOWOW day. Check out the BOWOW latest update page for the most recent figures and tally.

The children were involved in some planting however the garden was too wet for all classes to go out. Over the next few weeks Mrs. Meade is hoping to get some good planting weather!

Writing, drawing and painting were all the go today. The children also visited some websites relating to the day. They also were all treated to a lesson in how to make a
pinata out of some recycled materials. (Parents are going to love it when these are made at home no doubt!)

3rd - 6th classes also had an astronomy talk about our solar system.

The winners of the art competition were also announced. The competition was to create a poster that would encourage people to keep Slane clean.

As usual, classes took up the 'picker-uppers', bin bags, gloves and donned the 'Spring Clean' bibs and headed out of school to pick up rubbish. Rubbish was collected but not a huge amount. While there were some that were disappointed not to find more, it is a testament to people in the locality that keep Slane clean.

Thankfully the weather held off enough to allow us to have an activity-packed day!
