'The Surreal In Irish Art'
(updated)

2nd class put a lot of time and effort into a project called 'The Surreal In Irish Art' in association with Highlanes Art Gallery before Christmas. Now for a very limited time, the art gallery will be displaying the children's art pieces, and those of the other schools involved. The children took a bus trip over to the gallery on the 9th February and saw some familiar faces (!) aswell as all of their artwork proudly displayed among all the other pieces. Some of the children spoke about their inspiration for their piece and also how they made it. There were 'oooohs' and 'ahhhhs' from the caretakers and other people present while the children spoke. The children were treated to some goodies and drinks and had a wonderful time.

We also learned that the whole exhibition will be staying on display until April so there really are no excuses not to check it out. The gallery is open to the public 6 days a week and it's FREE ADMISSION!

We hope to be a part of other projects with the gallery down the line. Many thanks to all involved from the gallery

Christmas Plays

Junior Infants to 3rd class dazzled parents, grandparents and children alike with their performances over the final days of the term. A huge effort went into the productions. Each class performed three times over the few days, and giving fine performances each time. Well done to the children and all teachers involved. All the plays were thoroughly enjoyable.

November
Cake Sale - 25th November

Friday the 25th saw our first cake sale of the year. Before school started, there was a constant flow of people bringing goodies of all shapes, descriptions and sugars to the school hall! The smell of sugar could be had from as far away as the junior corridor with doors open. The Parent Association were well organised and held a coffee morning for parents and anyone who wished to attend for a chat. Shortly afterwards, the classes were let loose with their wallets and their eyes as big as the handfuls of cakes they purchased! The cake sale was a huge success with an amazing €1500 raised! A huge thanks to the Parent Association for such well organised event and also to all chefs and pastry makers within our school community!

Beetles, Butterflies, Bats & Bugs

One of our first events for our 5th Green Flag (Biodiversity) was a talk by Dale Treadwell. Dale spoke to the children about the "4 B's". He showed the children some videos about his work and had a few bug viewers with him to pass around. A lot of oooohing and ahhhhing went on when they were being passed around.

October
Hallowe'en Party

The day of the holidays had a spookier feel today with ghouls, ghosts, devils, superheroes and even one or two Jedward lookalikes all arriving for school instead of our usual complement of children! All went to a great effort again this year with costumes and cameras were clicking away gathering the evidence! Once again, the Parent Association hosted parties for the children in the dungeon... I mean... em... school hall with dancing and games for all to take part in and even face-painting for anyone who needed a face-lift! It was a really fun day sending everyone off on the holidays for some well earned and deserved R&R.
See you all in November everyone!

Cheerios Breakfast Morning

The first event organised by the Parent Association kicking off the year was the Cheerios Breakfast to raise much needed funding for Childline. The event was a huge success with the children enjoying the novelty of breakfast at school! We would like to thank all involved in the organisation and to everyone for helping us raise €552 for this very worthy cause.

September
New Teacher
We would like to welcome Ms. Lauren Delaney to our staff. We wish her well in her new position in 1st class.

School improvements
Many people would have noticed some of the external changes to our school - new roofing over some of the existing classrooms, the additional flagpoles and an additional classroom under construction. There was some extensive work done to several of the classrooms internally also. We were fortunate to secure some funding towards the improvement of part of the roof. We are also thankful to the many people involved in improving our school in time for our re-opening at the start of the month.
