There was great excitement in Mrs. Crinion and Mrs. Connor’s classrooms as farmer Dermot Crinion visited with some one day old chicks. Dermot runs a chicken rearing farm just outside Slane and he spoke to the children about the life of the birds. They were only twelve hours old! The visit was a great event, especially given that Easter is upon us.
All the pupils got an opportunity to hold the chicks. Finally, the pupils made a small presentation to Dermot for visiting. He in turn had chocolate eggs for the pupils, which he said had been laid by the chicks (we didn’t go into the Maths of it taking 26 hours to make an egg and that these chicks were only twelve hours old and that the eggs were made of chocolate. Ah well, never let the facts get in the way of a great lesson!)
Many thanks to Dermot for coming in and to Mrs. Crinion for organizing the event.
