We had our naming ceremony last month for our five new hens. Each pupil in the school was asked to think up of a name for the hens and names were then pulled out of a hat for junior and senior infants, first and second, third and fourth and fifth and sixth classes. Everyone’s suggestions were then put into a large box and we picked out the name for the last hen. Their names are Rosie, Matilda, Chewbacca, Rainbow and Angel. Mr. Halligan’s 5th class pupils have been doing a super job taking care of the hens this term. Everyone has now been trained in cleaning up after the hens, making sure that they have enough food and water, collecting, washing and boxing the eggs all the while ensuring safe and hygienic practice. They will continue to care for the hens until Christmas and Mr. O’Connor’s class will take over after Christmas.
