Pupils in Fourth Class took part in a poetry competition for Northumbria University’s Ledwidge Centenary Event. The event is due to take place at the “Literary and Philosophical Society” in Newcastle. Pupils were asked to write a poem inspired by the life and poetry of Francis Ledwidge. Judges were extremely impressed by the entries received from Darcey Devlin, Cormac Redhouse, Senan Duffy and Michael Loughran. Pupils in Fourth and Fifth Classes were treated to a talk from Michael Moylan from Co. Kilkenny on the above topics as part of the Francis Ledwidge celebrations. It was very informative and the pupils got to dress up in all the clothing of the time, which made it very interactive! Many thanks to Michael, and to Slane librarian, Margaret, for planning the event.
Sixth class pupils finished this week in St. Patrick’s N.S. after eight years in the school. They had been working on their yearbook for all of the previous month with pupil profiles, memories of teachers and reports on school events. Many thanks to parent Tracey Flynn for co-ordinating the production and printing of it. The graduation ceremony itself was very well attended.
