Both fourth classes are currently looking after tadpoles in their rooms. Frogs are a protected species but teachers have a licence to remove frogspawn to keep in school to show children their life cycle.
This week, froglets developed. The tadpoles grew their four legs and began to lose their tail. At this stage, they develop lungs and have to be able to be able to spend time out of the water breathing. We then put stones in the pond so that the froglets can get some time out of the water to breathe.
This week, we will put the developing tadpoles out in our school pond. Hopefully they will come back to lay frogspawn year after year.
