This year, in partnership with LEAF (Learning About Ecosystems & Forests) and Meath Local Sports Partnership, we are creating a woodland in our school.
This week, Rachel travelled to our school to work with pupils and our school staff about trees, their benefits and preparation for planting. As 4th class are involved in an outdoor learning project all this year, they were chosen for the workshop.
We took some soil samples to check the ground for planting, investigated current trees in the area, and measured the area for trees to be planted. All the species will be native, including oak, birch, holly, alder, whitethorn and Scots pine.
In the coming weeks, pupils from all classes will plant the trees in our school space.
Many thanks to local Councillor, Wayne Harding, for inviting our school into this scheme.
