April Assembly 2026

We had a very busy and memorable assembly this month in the school hall, hosted by 2nd class pupils.

Concert Fundraiser

Richard, John, Irene and Sharon (our beloved Secretary!) Carolan at the St. Patrick's N.S. April assembly

After singing Amhrán na bhFiann, we welcomed John and Richard Carolan, as well as their mother, Irene. John had been involved in a concert, held in The Mill, recently, which celebrated the life of his brother Neil, who passed away.

The concert was a huge success, and €1425 was raised on the night.

As of the performers were past pupils of St. Patrick's National School, they decided to donate the proceeds to St. Patrick's National School. We were very grateful for the contribution as we are trying to put a marching band in place for the St. Patrick's parade in 2027. The money will go a long way to purchasing instruments and accessories for the band.

John told the pupils that he started playing music in 2nd class in St. Patrick's N.S. and that it has been a big part of his life ever since.

It was so kind of the family to visit to speak with the children and for them to see how skills that they learn in our school can be used long after they leave St. Patrick's National School.

Birthdays and Gaeilgeoirí na Míosa

We then had some news from all the classes.

Goodbye to Bernie Kells

Paul O'Donnell making a presentation to Bernie Kells

Next up, it was time to say goodbye to Bernie Kells, who has contributed so much to our school over the years. Bernie is retiring from her role as the hot school meals operative in our school. However, she has had many roles, including travelling to football matches, tours, additional cleaning during Covid-19 and much, much more.

What is more special about Bernie is her way with the children and other adults in the school. She is kind, considerate and very chatty! We will all miss her but wish her well in the next adventures in her life.

Remembering Davy Hoey

Mr. O'Donnell then spoke to the assembly about the passing of our caretaker, Davy. He had spoken to Davy's family and they had asked him to tell everyone how appreciative they had been of the books of condolences, cards, stories, greetings and guard of honour at the school on the day of the funeral. We ended with a huge round of applause for Davy, which went on and on and on.

Second Class Presentations

Our MC for the day, MF

Finally, second class pupils presented some of their recent activities. They have been making home made board games, keeping a fitness log and learning about the Irish legend of Diarmuid and Gráinne.

Thanks especially to our visitors for attending and to all the pupils and staff for their attentiveness and participation. We will be back next month for the May assembly.
