Green Day in Slane NS was a great success, despite the wet weather.
All classes took part in a variety of fun and educational activities throughout the day.
The rain did not dampen our spirits, and everyone worked hard to get the job done.
Fourth Class went litter picking in Stanley Heights and helped to keep the area clean and tidy. Fifth Class carried out litter picking around Ledwidge Hall and collected a large amount of rubbish. Sixth Class climbed the Hill of Slane and took part in a litter pick there. Representatives from Slane Tidy Towns joined us and helped the children with their environmental work.
The junior classes enjoyed a forest walk with Mr. O'Donnell. During the walk, they learned that trees can communicate with each other through their roots.
The children were fascinated by this amazing fact about nature.
Second and Third Classes took part in exciting scavenger hunts around the school grounds. The scavenger hunts encouraged teamwork, observation skills and an appreciation of the environment.
Everyone showed great enthusiasm and responsibility throughout the day.
Green Day was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to learn about caring for the environment while having fun together.
