It was a great day last Sunday, the 4th of October, as the Slane Community Centre was officially opened by T.D. Helen McEntee, Councillor Wayne Harding and Community Centre Committee Chairperson, Maeve Carbin.

The project was the culmination of many years of work by people in the community, most especially a volunteer committee who had fundraised and worked relentlessly for many years to see the project through to completion.

The final elements, including a tarmacadam car park and line markings, outdoor and indoor signage and soft furnishings, were all installed in recent days to finish off the building and surrounds. With a meeting room space, as well as a reception area and sports hall, the Centre will be a fantastic resource for the community for many decades to come. Our school will get the use of the hall during the school day.

Local groups and clubs were invited to advertise their activities in the community, including St. Patrick's National School. Pupils had a great time chatting to local people about what goes on in our school. We also had a draw for six of our school hen eggs. The winner was Emilia Griffin!
