Many thanks to Slane Credit Union for hosting a great quiz competition in Rathkenny Hall on Sunday the 28th of January. St. Patrick’s N.S. had two senior and two junior teams at the event and all the pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day. 4th classes had a busy SESE lesson this afternoon investigating what lies beneath our school. They traced the sewage, waste water and electricity supply outside on maps and looked for clues as to where each is under the ground in our school. Davy, our caretaker, had a big treat for them when he lifted up one of the large manhole lids in the yard to show the pupils where the waste water and sewerage pipes come together. 4th classes had a field trip to our local St. Erc’s graveyard as part of our SESE theme this month “What lies beneath?”. Pupils were in full “working as an historian” mode on a cold but dry day. They had a number of tasks to complete as part of the trip and learned a lot about what is below as well as above the ground in our locality.
