4th class continued their study of air quality this week by finding new places in the school grounds where we could plant trees. There were three places identified. Two in the car park and one beside their classroom. Trees need 1 metre distance from each other when they are young. The pupils are now going to write to the Community Centre committee to see what plans are in place for more trees or hedges in the new car park.

This is our 7th year with hens and they still keep laying. The pupils formed a company many years ago called the “Gugalaí Gug Egg Company” and received a loan from the Slane N.S. Parents’ Association to build the henhouse, fence an area of the garden off and buy feed. The loan is long paid off. We had our naming ceremony last month for our five new hens. Each pupil in the school was asked to think up of a name for the hens and names were then pulled out of a hat for junior and senior infants, first and second, third and fourth and fifth and sixth classes. Everyone’s suggestions were then put into a large box and we picked out the name for the last hen. Their names are Rosie, Matilda, Chewbacca, Rainbow and…
